Arrows Reading: May 30th
Join Luisa Maria Celis as she reads from her new novel, Arrows
Saturday May 30th, Reading Room Cafe, Sooke
Time: 3:30pm
ARROWS: Based on the chronicles of José de Oviedo y Baños, a colonial historian, Luisa Maria Celis’ deeply moving, action-packed novel realistically depicts the subjugation of indigenous peoples, but it is also a love story of hope and the possibilities for redemption. The setting is Venezuela, but the context is the human heart.
BIOGRAPHY: Luisa Maria was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to Canada in 2000. Arrows was written over a nine-year-period and required extensive research in South America. “More of this story is true than most people will want to believe,” she says, “which explains why I had to write it.”
PRAISE: “I am astonished by Arrows. Here is a quintessential conquest novel for all three Americas—North, Central and South.” —Alan Twigg, BC Bookworld
